What time do Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry tee off at The Open today? Day two start times and latest leaderboard from Portrush
Shane Lowry of Ireland walks onto the 18th green during day one
The Open is officially underway as Rory McIlroy and the best golfers in the world converge on Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland for the second round.
It is the final major tournament of the year, and this is a title that many golfers grow up dreaming of winning.
McIlroy, the home favourite, has realised that dream once before - in 2014, at Royal Liverpool.
Now, McIlroy is trying to double his major money this calendar year and follow up his memorable Green Jacket victory at the Masters back in April.
The first day saw McIlroy move himself into title contention as he put on a show for the thousands of fans who cheered his every move.
Whilst far from his best off the tee, McIlroy certainly made up for it on the greens, three birdies on his front nine leaving him just two shots off the lead heading into the second day.
The Open Day One - Paul Kimmage, Brian Keogh and Conor McKeon bring you their take on an emotional first day for the Irish at Portrush
When is Rory McIlroy playing at The Open?
